Western Sydney University's commitment to sustainable development, assessed through its contribution to the United Nations 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has been recognised by the Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Ranking as a world leader for a fourth year in a row. WSU is commited to SDG 3 in research, teaching and community engagement, and has taken over the role of Cluster Lead for the SDG 3 Cluster in July 2025.

The IAU SDG3 cluster for Health & Wellbeing, Universities for Good Health, which was launched in 2018, is a network of seven higher education institutions across five continents, including Western  Sydney University (Australia), Makerere University (Uganda), Universidad de Caldas (Colombia), Universitas Gadjah Mada (Indonesia), Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (Mexico), University College Dublin (Ireland) and Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) (Spain).

In 2021, the University of Manouba signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which aimed to make the campus inclusive, resilient and sustainable. The agreement focuses on the development of five axes, namely, a campus that is beautified, safe and accessible to people with special needs.

The other axes concern the improvement of neglected public spaces adjacent to the university's neighborhoods, the embellishment of a multi-service area , the sensitization of the university community to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and an improvement in the relationship between the UMA and its neighboring territory.
