AUST student-led firefighting project
In 2025, a student team from Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) received the Youth-Led Action Research Award on Green and Digital Transformation for developing Firefly, an autonomous firefighting drone designed to enhance disaster response in high-risk and hard-to-reach environments. Supported by a competitive research grant from ActionAid Bangladesh, the team successfully developed, tested, and evaluated the prototype, with the findings contributing to an academic research publication. The project demonstrates AUST's commitment to fostering student-led innovation that combines engineering excellence with environmental sustainability and social impact. By encouraging applied research, technological advancement, and cross-sector collaboration, the initiative contributes to more resilient communities and supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDGs 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), 13 (Climate Action).
