The Global Initiative on Information Integrity on Climate Change, established by UNESCO, the Government of Brazil, and the UN, aims to combat disinformation undermining climate action. Recognizing that trust in scientific knowledge is essential for effective policies, the Initiative promotes accurate information, protects those reporting on climate issues, and supports marginalized voices affected by misinformation. Structured around a Global Fund, an Institutional Agenda, and climate campaigns, it funds not-for-profit research, fosters a global interdisciplinary network, and develops actionable policy recommendations. For the first time in 30 years, information integrity has been placed at the heart of climate negotiations, highlighting its critical role in informed global climate action.

The 2025 Call for Partnerships under the Global Fund for Information Integrity on Climate Change, led by UNESCO, the UN, and Brazil, received 447 proposals from nearly 100 countries, with strong participation from the Global South. The Fund supports not-for-profits advancing research, journalism, and communications to counter climate disinformation. Initial funding from Brazil is launching the first projects, while additional proposals await future support. UNESCO emphasizes that accurate information is central to effective, science-based climate action.
